This single was the first excerpt from the piece “Genklang” (Danish for resonance), which is a collaboration between Cirklen and the Danish choir ensemble MidtVest Girls' Choir. Genklang is a modern take on church music, composed for the unusual constellation of six acoustic guitars and classical choir.
“Falls - Rolls” is an uplifting journey through a landscape where playful melodies intetwine with the ancient solemnity of the church space. The song unfolds as a constant alternation between earthly pulsation and heavenly expanse: The voices of the choir stretch towards the church vaults, while guitars march through the aisles. The melodies bloom like flowers between the expansive notes of the choir before they are flooded by the resonance of the church. A meditation on the tension between the celestial and the corporeal, between the metaphysical connotations of the church and the presence, particularity and transience of the body.
The single is the first ever release from Cirklen, who has been active since 2009 with a variety of pieces, collaborations and concert formats – spanning techno, sound art and contemporary dance.
